HIT PARADE March 15th, 1952
To get you ready for this quiz, here’s some 1952 news
items. Later this year I don’t know about you, but, my memory isn’t what it was.
It’s funny though,
#10 Jo Stafford with Paul Weston’s orchestra sang: “______ Boats” It’s not “Fishing Boats” but that’s a hint. The words were written by Paul Howard.
# 9 Imitating a chubby gal and using a slight German/Austrian accent, Arthur Godfrey sang “I warm so easy so… Dance ___ ______” The Kordettes assisted Arthur. …Remember, “It shines so brightly, the moon”. It wasn’t too big a hit.
#8 “Be My ______ _________” (and you’ll never grow old). Rose Mary Clooney, backed by Percy Faith’s orchestra was the artist. It was a Bob Hillard and Milton DeLug song.
# 7 This was Johnny Ray’s first big year and he really made it a huge successful one. He was very busy and happy but found some time to tell the story of “The Little White ________ ____ _____” Not only did he sing it, he wrote it.
# 6 In 1945, Kay Starr went on her own after singing with Bob Crosby, Charlie Barnett, and the Glen Miller orchestras. Now a radio and TV star, this song made her even bigger….”Wheel __ __________.”
# 5 Eddie Arnold had a hit in 1948 with this song but it was brought back in a big way by Eddie Fisher when he sang, “Any________”.
# 4 Back again was Johnny Ray… this time on the flip side of the song mentioned in the #7 place. I mentioned that this was a happy year for him, and his sweetheart didn’t send him a letter of good-bye. Still he sang, “____” It’s enough to make you ….sad. The 4 Lads helped him out on this arrangement.
# 3 Johnny Ray also had a good selling record of this song but at least for this day in 1952, Tommy Edwards had the hit record of “Please Mr. ___” Some lyrics were, “speak to her Mr. Rainbow”, and, “speak to her Mr. Wind”.
# 2 This popular song also had a few popular versions. Eddie Fisher had one but this rendering was performed by Al Alberts and the Four Aces. It’s title was “Tell Me ______”
# 1 “______ Poke” was the number one song on this day for country and western singer Pee Wee King, who incidentally, wrote such popular song as; “Tennessee Waltz”, “You Belong To Me”, and “Bonapartes Retreat”. Arthur Godfrey’s recording didn’t do too badly either. Some of the songs were a bit difficult to recall but hope you did well. Scroll down for the answers.
